Dr. Nikolaos Iason Koufodontis is an elected Assistant Professor at the Department of Tourism Economics and Management at the University of the Aegean, in the discipline of “Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Tourism Enterprises”. His academic teaching experience includes nearly two decades of lecturing in undergraduate and graduate courses in Universities in Europe and the United States (as assistant professor, teaching staff, adjunct lecturer, visiting professor, and external associate). He also has 3 decades of research experience, since 1994, as a researcher in EU co-founded research programmes. Author of book in information technologies in tourism, with published research in high-ranking international scientific journals and conferences. Journal reviewer and European research programme evaluator. Specializes in digital entrepreneurship and use of information communication technologies in services management, with a focus on hospitality industry and air transport. Other research interests include organizational and technological innovations in management with a focus on tourism, digital marketing, internet and social media in tourism, digital image and destination branding, strategy of small and medium size hospitality enterprises, tourism and air transport, regional development. Has worked in the private sector as a co-owner and partner of internet service providers and has extensive knowledge and experience in programming, application development, information management, knowledge discovery, internet technologies etc. Has contributed to the development of several innovative digital technologies in tourism and marketing since the advent of the internet in Greece. Personal interests include general aviation. PPL holder for 2 decades in the past, with experience in aerial surveillance flights and duties as operational manager of light aircraft fleet.
